LOS ANGELES — Hollywood superstar Will Smith is officially set to reprise his iconic role as Robert Neville in the highly anticipated sequel to his 2007 post-apocalyptic blockbuster, I Am Legend. The project will also star Michael B. Jordan, who is attached to co-produce the film alongside Smith.
According to screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, the upcoming sequel will bypass the original theatrical ending of the first movie—where Smith's character tragically dies. Instead, the story will follow the film's alternative DVD ending in which Neville survives, creating a direct continuation of that narrative line.
Inspired by 'The Last of Us'
Goldsman revealed that I Am Legend 2 will jump decades into the future, showcasing a world reclaimed by nature. The production team has drawn significant inspiration from the acclaimed video game and television adaptation The Last of Us, focusing on a more grounded, gritty portrayal of New York City years after the outbreak. An official release date for the film has not yet been announced.
